If you’ve been paying attention to the fitness world lately, you’ve probably noticed that HYROX has exploded in popularity.
What started in Germany in 2017 has grown into a global fitness phenomenon, combining running with functional movements like sled pushes, rowing, farmer carries, sandbag lunges, burpee broad jumps and wall balls.
But the bigger trend is hybrid training - combining strength, endurance and functional fitness to create athletes who are strong, fit and capable.
Over the past year, we’ve seen more and more of our members get interested in hybrid events.
Heather and Eri were the first to take the plunge, competing together in a HYROX Doubles event in Vancouver. Then Laurie took things a step further, travelling to Las Vegas to compete in a HYROX solo event.
Watching our members take on new challenges, train differently, and accomplish things they weren't sure they could do got us thinking:
How can we help more of our community chase goals like this?
At Beach City, we don't want fitness to simply mean showing up, doing a workout and going home.
We want to help you accomplish things.
Maybe your goal is to lose weight, get stronger, feel better or stay healthy. Maybe it's running your first 10K, lifting 100 pounds or completing your first HYROX event.
Your goal doesn't have to be the same as anyone else's. We just want to help you achieve it.
That's why we're introducing our new Hybrid Race Prep program this September.
The program will combine running, strength, conditioning and functional fitness to help you prepare for hybrid events, while becoming a fitter, stronger and more capable athlete along the way.
And you don't need to have a race booked to participate. If you're looking for a new challenge, want to improve your running or simply want to try something different, this could be for you.
Before we finalize the program schedule, we're asking our members which days and times work best for them.
If there's enough interest, we'll look at offering multiple groups or training times to make it work for as many people as possible.
So if you've ever watched a HYROX event and thought, “I wonder if I could do that?”
Maybe it's time to find out.
